hi all/vin
i keep getting a wininet.dll error while using ie6, i don't get it every time though and when i do get it i can be doing almost anything, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when the error will occur, I'm using xp pro, Ive tried installing ie6 but it wont let me even when i use your registry fix, it still says the copy I'm trying to load is older than the one in use. any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers g1@n.

Hi, This is caused by a corruption in either your Temporary Internet files or History. 1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS Prompt. 2. Type deltree tempor~1, and then press ENTER. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, press Y, and then press ENTER. 3. Type exit, and then press ENTER. 4. Click the Internet Explorer icon and the necessary folders will be re-built upon starting. This was taken from the Microsoft site here support.microsoft.com/?kbid=160158 if you want the full version.

Hi g1n, First thing I'd suggest is along the same route as Graham suggested, delete your Temporary Internet Files as described HERE. Then any IE instabilities remaining is going to be due to other software (knowingly or unknowingly) installed onto the browser such as a third party toolbar or plugin. Remove any of these if you have any and scan your system with a spyware removal program such as Spybot to look for any malware that may have attached itself to IE. You could also reinstall IE from the 'Quick Links' menu on the left of Nethomehelp's front page. My final tip (as always in these cases) is to forget IE as it way behind in terms of features, useability and security than the more modern web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox & Opera which are free to download and use. Use one of these instead.
