General recommendations are to leave virtual memory to the system to configure but I like to set it to approx double the amount of RAM so in your case make it 512 min and max. To do this right click on my computer and go to properties, goto advanced - performance and advanced again, in there is virtual memory. Change the min and max to 512 and click SET then restart. If you still get the error try increasing it (or buy more RAM).
Hope that helps. Graham.

Graham, Have set as suggested, no further messages, what test can be done to prove new setting? You gave guidance to my other problem with resolution, I will try to keep this short! Did what your advised, desktop okay, though when useing Real Player everthing is too large. I did get into a list of screen sizes, but which one should be selected? This error happened when in the messaging side of Real Player, and it keeps defaulting to that, so large is it, I cannot access to turn it off as there is only a portion in view. Thenks for all your help. Colin

Graham, I have successfully sorted the resolution problem, I am grateful for all your input, some points differed, though the basics worked, being greedy, I have asked another question re mail Yahoo, I may well be doing something stupid with this, but if you have any ideas, It would be appreciated.

Hi,
Just read about your problem.. What screen resolution are you using at the moment? The general standards dictate that resolution should be 1024x768 on a 15" monitor, 1280x1024 on a 17" monitor and so on. The old Windows 98 style defaults such as 800x600 aren't really considered useable nowadays and the standard majority of websites and programs are now designed for at least 1024x786 displays.
The advantage to using larger screen resolutions is that things like toolbars and buttons take up less space on the screen therefore minimizing clutter and maximing workspace.
Myself... I can use 1400x1050 on my 15" & 17" monitors no problem, but as I'm solely a Linux user at home, fonts & window dimensions can sometimes be either slightly different to those in Windows or easily tweaked if thing start becoming uncomfortable to read. On my Windows workstation in work, I use 1280x1024 on a 15" monitor which I find readable from upto 1.5m away from the screen.
On your memory problems, Graham's suggestion of swap file size is right and will increase the stability of your system but if you're looking to increase the speed of your system through vitual memory, it ain't going to happen. To see a difference in performance you need to buy more RAM which is nice & cheap and has a big difference on the responsiveness of your system, once you stick in 1-2 GigaByte of RAM in your PC programs start to switch, multitask, startup & close almost instantly & seamlessly.
