Someone please help me.
How can I remove Lop.com from my computer? I have a toolbar I don't want, categories in my favourites list I didn't put there, don't want and can't delete, different search pages and the pop-ups are driving us mad (viagra, casinos, dating, etc. - totally unsuitable for my children to keep being bombarded with!) and are now there with every click!
We don't remember loading Lop.com and can't delete from Add/Remove programs (its not listed), nor from msconfig. Their own uninstall has a virus on it and obviously can't be used. Who are these people?
We're using XP and have popups blocked - is there any hope of being Lop.com free?
Nethomehelp is a great site and I've used the downloads for avast, ad-aware and spybot.

Have you tried one of the Spyware removal programs from Nethomehelp's downloads page? I'd recommend Microsoft's AntiSpyware program as it's very effective and easy to use.

Thanx for your help, Vin.
I installed Microsoft Antispyware and ran a scan. It detected threats, one being from Messenger Plus which apparently uses a software bundler adware program called C2Media or Lop.com. I removed them but on restart, I still have the toolbar, pop-ups and new favourites.
Is there anything else I can do to get rid of these?

If you have removed the malware but on reboot it comes back then there will be a 'trojan' on your system which is reloading the offending software. Scan your PC with a decent virus scanner such as Trend Micro's Housecall Online Virus Scanner. This and others can be launched from Nethomehelp's Quick Links menu on the front page. Good practice also is to disable 'system restore' before performing the virus scan as viruses or trojans can reside there, hiding away from virus scanners. To do this, do the following.. - Hold down the 'windows key' and press the 'Pause / Break' key.
- In the 'System Properties' window which opens, click on the 'System Restore' tab
- Tick the 'Turn off system restore' box and click OK.
Once you've found & removed the trojan, use MS AntiSpyware again to remove the Lop.com malware. In future, don't install novelty software such as Messenger Plus, if MSN Messenger doesn't have enough functionality for you, use another client like Trillian or GAIM which are available from Nethomehelp's downloads page under 'Chat/Communication'. You might also want to read my little article on spyware here. Oh yeah, and have a decent anti-virus program on your system, if you have anti-virus already on your PC, it obviously didn't detect this trojan when you installed it. I always recommend Avast which is free. All the best...

Thanx for getting back to me, Vin.
Your advice was really helpful - I am now Lop free! I actually found out where it came from using MS Antispyware and eventually reloaded Messenger Plus (and associated sponsor-ware), then uninstalled them using Add/Remove programs.
I had Avast running at the time of download, but my daughter didn't read the page about accepting sponsors and clicked 'yes, accept'. As you suggest, Messenger Plus is a gonner!
Thanx, again.
