Hi , Just bought a new Pc today , one of those fancy media centre jobbies however the bloody thing keeps crashing without warning , its not the worm blaster thingy , Ive installed all the updated drivers for my modem from Scientific Atlanta but still to no avail On your main page it mentions something about Pentium 4 HT well my PC is equipped with this but when I tried to follow your instructions I couldnt get into the BIOS menu to disable the hyperthreading option . I contacted Blueyonder to ask them if they had any ideas and all they could come up with is to connect via and ethernet connection , Ive never really heard of this and dont know if it would solve my problem let alone be better for my PC as the guy on the phone said it would Id appreciate any advice someone could give me as Id rather not throw a £2K 1 day old PC out the window just yet Thanks Dean

Well ... I think you've answered your own question there Dean... You've got a P4 HT ... are you using your cable modem through USB? This is your problem. If you have a look on the back of the cable modem there'll be a socket for ethernet. Use that to connect your PC to the modem .. or disable Hyperthreading in the BIOS... simple as that. Given the choice I would go with ethernet over USB every time. If you have a new PC, the chances are that it has this option built in. Ethernet is a proven technology and has been tried and tested for decades. USB is great when you want to plug n play but due to the apparant issue your machine has with this particular device why not take the burdon off your system resources?
Disabling the HT will solve the issue every time, but why turn off a function that may have been a factor in you choosing that particular processor in the first place?
