Hi.
I have a scientific atlanta webstar modem that telewest broadband gives you as standard when you sign up for broadband. When I got broadband I had an awful PC (win 98)that could only just about cope with it, and I had to connect via USB. I then got a new PC with XP on it and installed the drivers that came with my modem. It worked fine for a couple of weeks, but then my computer started shutting down randomly, and I got "the blue screen of death" telling me that it was the modem drivers that were causing this problem. So I went onto the scientific atlanta site to download updated drivers, but they only have an uninstall file for the drivers, not the actual drivers for the modem which I need.
I am currently connected via ethernet and keep being disconnected, I have followed the steps on the "fixes" page on the site, (the one about changing the settings in the registry so that the windows autodisconnect doesn't happen) but it doesn't seem to have done anything.
I have rang telewest on numerous occasions but they say that it is not a problem at their end, and for some reason are refusing to send me new drivers for the modem.
Wondering if you could help?

Another thought... Does your new PC have a Pentium 4 HT CPU?. I've written a little article on Hyperthreading PC's crashing when certain USB devices are attached HERE.
