Hi, I think I know the answer to this, but will someone please confirm why I get a different result everytime I do a speed test? This I do not know he answer to, but I now have updated my speed to 2.00, but my windows in the bottom left hand still says 1.00 Any help would be appreciated, I am a newbie by the way, so apologies for not introducing myself. Anna

Hi Anna, I can kinda tell you're a newbie but you're welcome as this site is for folks just like you... Anyway, when you say you've upgraded to 2 I'm getting that you've upgraded you internet connection to '2Mbps' (Megabits per second). If your computer is connected to your modem via 'ethernet' the little window at the bottom of the screen will be showing '100Mbps' which is the standard ethernet connection speed (this is just the link between your PC and the modem). This is all normal. If your computer is connected to your modem with a 'USB' connection, try switching off the modem at the mains and switching it back on again to see what speed the little icon at the bottom of your screen. After all, the icon at the bottom of the screen isn't directly relevant to your internet connection with a cable modem, it just shows the speed of the link between your computer and the modem. You can just use the ' Nethomehelp Speed Test' to get an snapshot of the performance of your internet connection. If the result is close to your internet connection's maximum speed then all is OK, it's unlikely that you get the absolute maximum speed on any web speed test.

Hiya, Thanks. I didn't know that thing about the ethernet, thanks. I did realise that my speed would be affected by other factors. Wowser, 1.0 mbs to 2.0 mbs doesn't make that much difference then. And I can remember dial up at 56 k. BTW I didn't realise my newbieness would be so obvious Hey thanks for such an informative response. Much appreciated. Anna

;D Hi Anna I have 2MB broadband too.Mine changes from between 1600 and 1900 it never reaches 2mb.It also depends on what time of day it is, ie 6 pm you will find it slower.and then say 2am a lot faster.1mb does sound slow though.Try calling your ISP provider they might have to re-set your modem, as it happened to me a few months ago. If you want a good online test go to gemal.dk/browserspy/bandwidth.html or www.beelinebandwidthtest.com/ Hope that helps. ;D
