i have windows xp professional, is there any way i can have 2 IP addresses. i have 3 internal IP addresses because i go through a Belkin Router, but with most games it will only let me have 2 PC's in one server at any one time. I have 3 PC's and any combination of 2 can access the server, so i wondered if i could make up another IP address to outbound to the internet.
PLease HELP !!

Hi Chris... Well there's no way you can have 2 external IP addresses on one internet connection (apart from Blueyonder Broadband), especially through a router. The problem is more than likely down to the game server which may have a limit on the number of sessions allowed from one IP address. Try another game server with a different host. If you're with Blueyonder you can subscribe to the 'Dual Connector' service which allows you to use either 2 connections on a hub connected to the cable modem's ethernet port to get 2 simultaneous IP addresses ... or it can allow you to connect (for example) one PC to the USB port and your router to the ethernet port... The 'Dual Connector' service costs an extra £5 a month on your bill. Info can be found hereLet me know how you get on

I have to say... No amount of 'configuring' with give you 2 external IP addresses on the internet... The external IP addressing is all to do with allocation on the ISP's network and nothing to do with your PC. He may have meant that there could be a router problem that may be causing your online gaming problem.. Athough the problem with most likely still lie with a session limit on the game host server. Good luck anywayz...

So if i did get that other ip i would be able to get in with three comp. When im in with two the other has no prob getting in another and all is well so nothing wrong with the setup. someone told me that if you change the port number in the console it will alow 3 comps in. Somthing to do with the console config with the Quake three engine. but it has to be done outside the game and i cant find the file to do this the commannd is net_qport 16392

To enter the command console on Quake3, press the 'tilde' key (next to the 'Tab' & '1' keys) whilst in the game. Then you can type in that command.
After all it's going to be one of two things.. A server session limit per IP address, or a router config issue...the first being the most likely. If all 3 of your PC's can access the web at the same time, then it's not the router.
Changing Quake3's outgoing port is unlikely to have an effect as the server is still accepting the connection on the same port.
Try different Quake3 servers in Quake's built in server list (i.e. not a service like 'Gamespy') to see if the problem still occurs.
When troubleshooting I'd always exhaust all avenues before shelling out money to fix a problem.
One thing I didn't mention earlier is why player limits on IP addresses are often configured on servers... Game servers have a limit on the number of concurrent connections (IP's) to keep the load on the server and therefore quality of service at an acceptable level... Same goes for the the amount of players / sessions per connection... If you can't find a public server that will allow 3 PC's to connect from your one connection.. there will be servers that will allow this but only to members who pay a subscription.
