Hi all,
I have a linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router. On the whole it runs fine but the biggest problem i have is using MSM messenger and Yahoo mesenger. I cna send text messages to others but i can't send or recive files on wither applivation or use my webcam or audio.
I know it is the router becaus eif i connect direct to my cable modem everything is fine so i know it is not my my software fire wall.
any ideas on what settings i need to crunch into the router to get arround this problem.
cheers,
Phil

Hi Philoe. There's a few things you can do on your router's configuration to possibly get round this problem. You can ... - Disable your router's firewall and just use the software firewall on your PC
- On you router's firewall settings you can open all ports from 6891 to 6900 for MSN messenger. This may work
- Or instead of opening those ports you could setup port forwarding for each of those ports to be forwarded to the same port numbers (for MSN messenger) on your PC's IP address. This also may work and is more secure than the previous method
This way, any packets coming into your router on ports 6891-6900 can be setup to be directly passed onto your PC on the same ports without blocking them first. This will work but is more tricky to setup if you're a beginner
. The choice is yours... Instructions and the router manual can be found HERETo make things more compicated, Yahoo! Messenger transfers files on port 80 (the same port used for web browsing) so you may have to setup port forwarding on your router to forward packets on TCP port 80 to your PC's IP address.
