I again can you please tell me the difference between a crossover cable and a patch cable All i can seem to find is that Crossover is for lan and Patch is to get to onto the internet and lan, Is this fact and all the info Cheers

Hi Chris, If you want to create a wired network between your computers/consoles/media centers or whatever ethernet enabled devices you have, you need a hub, switch or router to connect them all together. The difference between a normal ethernet lead and a crossover ethernet lead is just the way the RJ45 plug at one end is wired up, basically swapping round the receive & transmit wires. A crossover lead generally comes in handy for directly connecting 2 computers (or whatever) without the need for a hub or router. Hope that cleared things up for ya

So my friend has DSL he wants network am i right in these options
1.Tele line/micro filter/RJ11 cable/DSL ethernet modem Router/Patch cable to all computers from the ports
2.Tele line/micro filter/rj11 cable/wireless modem router/Then get a wireless card for each computer

And another thing i know how to set up a network with cables but if i get a wireless modem router with with a four port, the closest computer can be on the first port using Ethernet cable .Now here is the bit i don’t know
I Will put a USB or PCI card in my second computer upstairs np .Do i have to run that wireless setup in the control panel if so can you give me take me through a step by step please .Because i had a look and it starts asking for USB flash drives and so on i don’t understand Cheers Chris
