Vinny Chris K told me about your web site and i didnt take your advice about joining telewest and ive joined Carphone Warehouse. BUT the 2nd line support now say that there are issues with connectivity between XP service pack 2 and ADSL. They are advising customers to remove this. Are they just using a 2nd line support fob-off technique or is there something more to this? ?? johnny p

Hi John, Sounds like a bit of a fob off to me. There aren't any direct issues between XPSP2 & DSL connections. XPSP2 is designed among other things to give extra security for home users whose PC's are directly connected to the internet, also to give extra security to Internet Explorer. Your DSL provider's support team should be encouraging customers to install the latest service pack not remove it. I use a DSL connection and have had no faults with XPSP2. I have come across an annoying little 'security measure' though... namely that XPSP2 limits the number of concurrent TCP connections to the internet to only 10... This limit can choke P2P file sharing programs & protocols as they need many connections open at once to work properly. There is a patch to enable you to change this connection limit which is available HERE
