Vin,
Help please, have a pop-up message saying that windows has found my registry to be faulty. I am sure it is not, and there is no Win logo on the box to prove it . It also says from system, and refers me to a site to have it checked, is this genuine, and should it be trusted? It is becoming a pain, as it keeps popping up, and I do not wish to use this service.
Thanks for all your help.

If it is suggesting you go to a website to fix the problem it is most definitely an pop-up advert. If you are not browsing the internet with IE at the time then it is being caused by some sort of adware/spyware loaded on your PC.
A quick scan with Microsoft AntiSpy or Spybot should clean it up. As always, a choice of spyware removal programs including the 2 mentioned are available from Nethomehelp's downloads page.
If you find that after removal it is coming back you most likely have a trojan on your system. Scan with the Housecall Online Virus Scanner on Nethomehelp's front page to get rid, then rescan with your chosen spyware removal program.

Well.. As always, I suggest Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, more features, faster page rendering, more secure. After a while you'll wonder why you'd ever needed to load an anti-spyware program. As far as your current problem goes, I think something may have been missed on the virus scan. Although I don't think it's the virus scanner's fault, more likely that Windows XP's 'system restore' file contains the trojan. Windows does not allow virus scanner programs to read the system restore repository while system restore is enabled. Disable system restore and virus scan your PC again. To disable system restore do the following; - Hold down the 'windows key' and press the 'Pause / Break' key.
- In the 'System Properties' window which opens, click on the 'System Restore' tab
- Click on the 'Turn off system restore' box so it is empty then click the OK button.
My take on NAV is that it's one of the worst AV package available for Windows, It's bloated (slows down your PC), often corrupts Windows processes, often has security vunerabilities and lets many trojans/viruses in without detection. My favorite virus scanner for Windows is Avast, it's free, isn't bloated and has loads of excellent features that make it more successful at detecting and removing viruses than many commercial AV programs. Hence it is the recommended AV program on Nethomehelp's downloads page. P.S. Do fully uninstall any other AV program before installing a new one. As ever, you can download any of the programs mentioned from the Nethomehelp downloads page.
