Hi Innishkea, To start with, lassa.exe is a trojan ( more details here) residing on your PC so first things first, you need to virus scan the PC to remove any viruses & trojans on there. If there's no anti-virus installed, download Avast anti virus from nethomehelp's downloads page on another PC, stick it on a CD or pen-drive and install it on the affected PC to scan for the resident nasties. BTW, is the PC picking up an IP address?

no pc is not picking up ip address I have been online with tech support who seem to think its a windows problem .. (possibly) I have ran virus checker and no virus was found I had avast installed when the machine went down it has gotten worse since first post now I can't access the desktop as it just sits with the busy signal, I usually build my own machines but this one a friend built and I cant access the boot screen it flashes to fast on pressing del on post I need to set boot up for reinstalling windows any ideas ??

Hi there thank you for your help but my problem has gotten worse I cannot access the start menu nor the desktop everytime I try to hit the start menu it shows a busy signal and wont let me in I have manged to access my computer through a side menu from a folder on my desktop but I am having to go into task manager and close down some of the processes that are running there is one I noticed that is not assigned a user its one of the many svchost.exe files I know that this is a required file by windows but I have about four or five of them running when I close down the one that isn't asigned to system or user it lets me access the folders on the desktop I have ran avast and avg along with spybot and ad ware but nothing showing up I cannot access the run menu to try the winsock fix and Blue yonder tech support talked me through the iprenew using the netsh that you have given me with no luck I seriously do not want to force a format on my system because it will mean losing everything I have on that machine. I am really stuck for ideas on how to get it repaired, I would appreciate any advice given if a format is the only way then so be it but I tried to reinstall windows last night and it is not picking up my larger drive and tells me the drive it has selected is too small, I cant install from boot up as I cant get into the boot menu to set boot from cd rom as the screen flashes up and away before I can access it Desperately needing help ??

I'm without doubt that your problems are caused by the trojan and maybe other resident viruses on the PC. Am I right in thinking from what you have said that there are 2 AV programs installed on the PC? Tip: AV programs are not made to coexist with other AV programs, it doesn't make the PC doubly protected against viruses. Neither AV program will able to properly actively protect againt viruses. If this is so it could be why the trojan wasn't detected in the first place. I suggest booting Windows into safe mode, removing both AV programs and reinstalling Avast. Avast has a 'Boot-time scan' feature, use it. Once scheduled this will do a full virus scan before Windows has a chance to boot (and therefore before any virus/trojan has a chance to become active). Once you've removed whatever nasties are on the system things should be running better and you'll be able to fix the network problem if that still exists. By the way, when you checked the IP address what was it?

Vin
I had removed avast prior to all of this happening. I cant run safe mode because I cant get into the dos screen I am running a virus scan as I type I am desperately trying to save this system.. my ip was 195.168.75.164.. I have had to remove service pack 2 so that i might be able to get access to reinstalling windows later if that be the only way .. thank you for your help
